SETTING

THE CITY OF PROGRESS

You had a dream of woman telling you she could grant whatever wish you wanted if you helped her. It was a young woman with a kind smile, but something seemed sad about her. She said her world needed help and you were one of the few that could help. She said in order to help her world and get your wish granted, you had to sign a contract. The contract didn't seem all that bad, and you probably thought it was a good deal (One week living and doing whatever you wanted? It's only a week, and think of what you could wish for!). After all, this is just a dream, right? You'll wake up and this dream won't matter. But you were wrong. You wake up in a strange room and a robotic creature starts playing a video projection of the woman you saw in your dream. She tells you that you agreed to helping her and she explains why you are here. Will you help her? Or has there been a grievous mistake?

The City of Progress is built on the principle of being an ideal utopian city. That's why the government established the research center, hiring only the brightest and most ambitious scientist and researchers. After the technology of world hopping was considered safe, scientists and researchers from the research center decided to learn about what was really outside of their universe. While some worlds were chosen at random, some other worlds have been studied for a few years before a participant's arrival. Either way, the staff are excited and are more than willing to learn about the different worlds.

Still, they know staying in a strange and new place can be jarring. Participants are given the best luxuries and accommodations that the city has to offer. All they ask for is that participants share information with each other, with their data collectors, and so on. They also ask that participants just to behave and act like they would back home. Data collectors record and collect all the needed and relevant information straight to the researchers. In return for all of this, participants have been promised a great reward. After all, technology is extremely advanced in this world. After a week of living in the city, participants will have one of their deepest wishes granted. There are some rules for wishes, but most things can be wished for if applied to their home world.

Something seems strange about all of this, huh? Things are too perfect, too controlled...right? Participants will be told it's just how things are here, but something still seems off. As participants grow closer to each other and their data collectors, the secrets of the City of Progress will start to unravel, and with that, the true cost of progress will be shown.

WHAT WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE TO HISTORY

Your character will arrive with:
• Clothing they normally wear during the day. Jewelry or special objects that can be worn (e.g. soul gems for madoka) can be kept and they still have their powers.
• A data collector, a robot companion. They can guide participants around the city and also buy things for participants if a shopkeeper scans one of their eyes.
• A folder with various documents that include a signed consent form, the rules of the city, a typed form of the video message from before, and a map of the city.
• A mobile communication device that can post voice, text, and video message on a network specially created for participants. It can also be used to purchase things.
• Keys to their new residence.
• One weapon, pet, item from home can be taken along.
